Have an 89 model hilux single cab and I am trying to find a solution to the bloody awful seats toyota see fit to install in them .Have priced several aftermarket items and have found the prices range from expensive to ridiculous. Do many hard miles on dirt and heavy bushwork in NW Qld and am looking for a comfy alternative .Has anybody fitted buckets from another vehicle and if so how did you go with compliance etc and what vehicle did you swap the seats from. Many thanks if you can help with this problem.

Try the surf 90/94 seats, should bolt stright in they have 6 way adjusters on them up/down lumbar/tilt forward/back even winds the wings (sides) in or out to keep you in the seat.Lots in wreckers in perth. Ray

At the time I was looking at doing the same thing to my hilux the wreakers had some recaros that come in some surfs, they wanted $800 for the two. The only problem was they are rare and hard to find, I sat in the standard surfs seats which were alot better than the standard hilux ones but ended up buying some new aerotech seats for about $600 each. The aerotechs are fantastic, they were so good I pulled them out of the hilux when I sold it and are now sitting in my new landcruiser ute.
If you decided to get aerotechs I've got the two bases you need to adapt them to your hilux sitting at home collecting dust, I have also got a black recaro (from the landcruiser) sitting collecting dust, it's a bit rough underneath but I had a custom made sheepskin seat cover made for it and it's missing a bolt (easy fix) you can have it for $200.

good luck..

Also with compliance you need a blue mod plate from QLD TRANSPORT DEP. to say that you have modified it from a three seater to a two seater from memory it was about $50.
