I am about to install a 182 litre fuel tank in place of the sub tank in my 100 series TD Cruiser. The vehicle has a kaymar rear bar and wheel carrier fitted. My intention is to replace the heavy duty King Springs KTRR-70HD with super heavy duty KTRR-70HHD. I used to have the same super heavy duty springs on my previous 80 series (kaymar & 180 litre tank also fitted) which worked well. Does anyone else have the same springs fitted to a similarly equipped 100 series and if so I would appreciate your comments on ride, ride height etc. I currently get alot of oncoming traffic flashing their lights at me, so I am thinking even with the extra weight on board the super heavy duty springs might still raise the rear enough to drop my headlights a little.

I also have a TD 100 series, fitted with 182l tank, Kaymar bar and twin wheel carriers. I had OME 866 springr in the rear when I bought it a few months ago - they were medium load (200kg constant) but were 10 mm shorter than the original standard springs. My ride height with full tanks but no other load was 750mm measured from bottom of rim to wheel arch thru the centre of the axle.

I had new torsion bars fitted, which lifted the front about 60mm, and then had people flashing their lights at me too! Can't have this, so did I adjust the lights? No way! Back in to get OME heavy duty load (400kg constant ) 864 springs. Rear ride height with full tank is now 820mm, and can increase to 840mm if I want using the polyairs.

With regards to ride and handling - slightly firmer, but my wife hasn't noticed any difference - other than the kids now having a bit more difficulty climbing in & out.

I would recommend the OME, but can't comment on the Kings.

Hi Croozer,
Just finished doing mine recently, same size tank and King springs. I put extra heavy in the rear and heavy in the front as I have an alloy bar and don't have a winch. Mine had sagged a bit before so the 2" lift, which is what they claimed, resulted in 5" front and 3" rear. From memory, the rear now sits at 1000mm to the top of the arch. I do have a drawer system and a 50 litre water tank in the back.

It looks high, but the ride is excellent. It will probably "settle" a bit as time goes by. Perhaps a tad more body roll than before, but certainly nothing to worry about. I then put 150 litres of fuel in the rear tank and she only came down 10mm. I did have to put in offset castor bushes as the resulting camber after raising it was -0.5 degrees (should be about +3 degrees). Without fixing the castor angles, the steering was extremely "twitchy" but is back to normal now.

All up, very happy with the King springs. Certainly not harsh, even when fully unloaded.

Cheers
Gerry

Thanks for all the responses. I would guess the HHD King Springs are probably similar to the OME 864's, which sounds like the popular setup with a heavily loaded cruiser. I picked up the tank today & hope to fit it in the next week, then once I see how much it drops I'll slip in a new set of coils. I'll be sure to take plenty of measurements for comparison and report back.
Thanks again for your info,
Stu
