Any one out there using OziCE, can you maybe shed some light. I own a HP iPAQ 2215 and a HP iPAQ Bluetooth GPS Recepteur SiRF. They seem to comunicate fine in blutooth mode even though they if I click the active connection it doesn't show any incoming data when driving around. If I fire up OziexplorerCE and click moving map nothing happens.

I use the full Oziexplorer on my laptop and can even use the Bluetooth GPS through this unit with no problems, its just with the PDA.

ANY IDEAS????

OK got it working OK.

With the BlueTooth Manager I browsed and found my GPS. I explored it and set it up as an SPP slave. (SPP is Serial Port)

Then using the Holux GPS Viewer that you can download from the Holux Wesite I discovered the GPS on Com 8.

In OziCE I set the GPS options in the NMEA section to "COM8: Bluetooth Serial Port COM8:" and the baud rate to 38,400 (Although 4800 worked too)
Turned on the GPS in Ozi by clicking on the GPS icon and away we went.

Peter

ps. I'm using the latest version of OziCE from the OziExplorer web site and ROM 1.1 in the iPaq.

Check the oziexplorer page because there are some issues with blue tooth and Windows CE (depending on your version of windows CE).
I believe the latest Windows CE 2003 has been fixed.

If it is that, then there is a simple fix editing the registry.

A friend of mine had major problems with bluetooth (I have CF..no problems) - main issue was tuning unit off without turning bluetooth connection off first - required reset (the little button inside small hole on back of PDA). Other issue was making sure correct com port selected in confirguration of OziCe. Good Luck.

From OziCE Web page

Bluetooth issues with PocketPC 2003

Bluetooth Port: The Bluetooth com port to use for connection may be Com 8 or Com 5 depending on the Make, model and ROM version of the PDA.

When using a Bluetooth GPS and the map images are on a SD or CF card: Bluetooth disconnections may be more frequent - it may somehow relate to cpu load. Seems to happen a lot more if map images are loaded from a SD card.

If the PDA is turned off and on when connected to a Bluetooth GPS the connection may no longer work: Even if disconnected and reconnected it cannot be made to work, a reset may be required.

On the iPaq 2200 and 5500 series and possibly others, if you turn off the PDA with an active Bluetooth connection the PDA will not turn on again, you must press the reset button to get the PDA working again. : ROM upgrades are available from the HP web site support pages.

Bluetooth in PocketPC 2003 will always ask for a device before connecting: (PocketPC 2002 only asks the first time and does not ask again once the devices are paired).

If you would like the PocketPC 2002 behavior there is a registry entry which can be made. You will need a registry editor like RegEdit.

Under the registry key HKLM\Software\Widcomm\BtConfig\AutoConnect\0005 or HKLM\Software\Widcomm\BtConfig\AutoConnect\0008 ; it may be one or the other of these depending on the PDA make, model or ROM version. Create a new DWORD value called : BtBrowserEnabled and set it to: 0

Bluetooth should now connect to a paired device without asking.

I sent one final shout after him to stick to the track, to which he replied “All right,” That was the last ever seen of Gibson - E Giles 23 April 1874

So Bluetooth Manager is showing the connection is working? I also bought a Bluetooth dongle to trouble shoot and transfer files.

Yep John, It is working in Bluetooth Manager, I am starting to think a CF GPS may be the best bet.

I've had a couple of weird probs with Ozi CE, both times solved by reinstalling on the Ipaq.

Hi Blaze

I have an I-mate PDA (phone thingy) that I run Ozi CE on using a Y cable connection not BT.. HAd a lot of trouble to start with but eventually someone told me to check the Infrared setting. If set to accept all beams then this conflicted with the Com port specs for the GPS.

Cheers

I had the same problem described in the origional post with a similar set up. Solution was to let OziCE do the BT pairing when it turns on rather then setting up the BT connection outside OziCE.

Works perfectly now.

It's a shame that the suppliers of Ozi CE didn't know enough about the BT connection to help me with what ended up being a 5 second fix. That was my only gripe..
