Apart from some lug damage and cuts and bruises(all inflicted by me), my old style STT's are doing OK, with 25,000km on the tread. Tread depth is still 8mm which is about half worn(maybe).

A recent visitor to our place extolled the virtues of the New Style STT's on his Troopy. He reckons that when the tyres pressures are lower the heavy duty lug sidewall is much tougher in rough terrain and is probably comparable with Goodyear MTR's.

I have had no punctures in the rough stuff but have picked up 3 nails in town(most likely out of my own yard lol)

I was pretty impressed with the ST's. I got 115,000km on a GU Patrol...that's when one picked up a stake on rough gravel road. I didn't detect it quick enough an dshredded it. I replaced them with STT's and they did wear really quickly, especially the fronts. I wouldn't get more than 50,000km out of them. Pretty uneven wear on the lugs.

I know that your question was directed to Willem, but I would like to add to add to the answer from my experience.

On the 1st April this year I had a set(6) of Coopers STT fitted. In the first 6000km the tread depth went from 15mm to 12mm. Not good. Now I have done a total of 40,000km and they are at 8mm tread depth. I have also rotated the 6 tyres about every 10,000km.
I also found the tyres skiddish in the wet when they were new but now they have worn a bit they seem to hold the road better.

In that 40,000km I have done the Canning, Simpson Desert, Flinders and the Vic High Country plus a lot of hi way driving to and from work.

I will also say that Coopers gave me the tyres to try and to give them feed back which I have done as well as keeping this forum informed as well.

I am running Coopers ST/C on my GU and am very happy with them. They are performing well in all conditions and have not chipped up at all, well maybe a little bit. They are not as agressive as the STT's or Goodyear MT's but a little more agressive than the BFG A/T's, I liked that.

Most of the work is around town, a fair bit of high speed highway stuff, couple of trips to the Flinders, White Cliffs, Wanaaring Tibooburra and a short stint in the Vic High Country around Mansfield. Sorry I can't give detail on tyre ware and mileage, would have to look it up and I am at work at the moment.

One of the local tour operators has a set under the "we give you tyres you give us feedback" deal. He reckons they outperform the old STT's and the BFG A/T's he has run both. Most of his work is in the Broken Hill area but he does go father afield including the Kimberly.

Have not tried the new STT's the local Cooper dealer told me to hang off till he had some feedback.
