Does anybody know what moving map/voice guidance software, like Oziexplorer, DiscoverAus etc can be used with the Tom Tom Navigator 3 with a PDA.
Or can you only use the genuine Tom Tom software?

Hello - firstly all the programs you mentioned are stand alone programs (software)and cannot be "used" with each other i.e. they do not interact. I assume you mean “can the map/data used in programs such as OziExplorer and DiscoverAus be used in Tom Tom software"...and the answer is no i.e. you will need Tom Tom map/data to use with Tom Tom software. I actually have no experience with Tom Tom software but assume (educated guess) that the maps/data required would be very program specific and in a "special" format. OziExplorer and DiscoverAus, which are GPS Mapping Programs, do not have any automatic route planning capabilities so are actually a different class of product to Tom Tom anyway.

Sorry to sound vague, what I was asking was, if I have a Tom Tom Navigator 3 GPS & a PDA, can I use any mapping software, or am I limited to using only the Tom Tom mapping software, which I don't have.

No worries - my mistake - from what I can figure you have a GPS (which just happens to be a Tom Tom Navigator 3 GPS..they all do the same - output NMEA data) and a PDA....the PDA is therefore the defining factor. What PDA do you have?

DiscoverAus does not work on PDA's ...but OziExplorer (CE version)does - but there are some limitations - from Ozi website

PDA's Supported

Handheld - HPC (CE version 2) , HPC Pro (CE Versions 2.11,2.12) , HPC 2000 (CE version 3.0+) and CE.net versions 4.2+
Palm sized - _Permanent_Painted_Coatings.aspx (CE version 2.0 and versions 2.11,2.12)
PocketPC - PC2000 (CE version 3.0+)
PocketPC - PC2002 (CE version 3.0+)
PocketPC - (Windows Mobile 2003) PC2003 (CE version 4.2+)
PocketPC - (Windows Mobile 5.0)
ARM , MIPS , SH3 , SH4 , and Intel PXA2xx cpu's (Xscale) are supported for all platforms where applicable.

OziExplorerCE will not run on

PDA's using Windows CE version 1.
Handheld, Palm sized and PocketPC CE PDA's using AMD cpu's.
Palm Pilots and any other PDA not using the Pocket PC / Windows CE operating system.

There are a quiet a few other GPS mapping programs that work on PDA's so your biggest problem will be choosing which one..and finding appropriate maps to use. OziExplorerCE is probably the best known/supported...can not see a reason not to use it if it suits your purpose.
Cheers

Dell Axim X5 - looks flash! If you wish to give OziExplorer CE a go just download and install - unregistered version works with a few "niggles". Like most programs there is a bit of a learning curve! . By the way you actually need the PC version of Oziexplorer to gain full use of CE version.

Ozi works well, another you can look out for is GPSTuner, both offer the moving map experience but Ozi is easier to setup as lots of maps (and Natmap) can be used without needing extra calibration.

TomTom 3, now there's TomTom 5 which is excellent. Also I don't think there are TomTom 3 maps for Australia (I couldn't find any) but TomTom 5 now has Aussie maps and works well (though I don't like the routing it uses compared to Destinator).
Destinator 3 and CoPilot are the other 2 main ones that do turn by turn navigation. As far as I know the TomTom GPS unit is just a standard GPS unit and should work fine with any software so long as you can identify the com port its using (or the software can scan for it).
