What are the best spotlights for approx $300. So far my choices are between lightforce, hella and IPF. And is there any spotties cheaper and just as good as the big names.

If you are going to be doing
creek crossings , steer away from Hella as they fill up with
water .They are goods lights if you don't want to go off road .
Lightforce seem to be the most popular of the really keen guys on this
forum , but I had a pair of Cibie Oscars that were also very good . IPF are also
well regarded .

Another Cibie user hear and no complaints, from memory the Cibie Oscars are closer to $400 and the 900series IPF’s were about the same that was 2 years ago so could be wrong about that. I could get the Cibies at mates rates so I got them insted and have been happy with them.

Have had a pair of Oscars long term on every car - same pair. Still brilliant after about 2 decades of use. Wouldn't swap them for anything.

I am not sure if I am allowed to do this outside of the trading section but somebody can rap my knuckles if I am not . I have a pair of Cibie Oscars with new reflectors in them which I will sell for $200 if you are interested .
They have been on two cars but as I said they work as good as new with the new reflectors . One is spot and one is spread .

I think if u do a search of the archives or watch what people post on here u will be left in no doubt the lightforce 240's are second to none.(over $300 tho i feel..the 170's may be under) I went down this path i while ago and opted for a compromise. I found lots of unhappy people in the archives who had outlayed their $$$$ for the lightforce and had someone else like them more.(pinched) So I spent $160 on a set of night stalker 200's which are brilliant for the money, but not as good as the lightforce 240's i admit. Just another suggestion.:)

I use Ziel's, I have 2 driving and 1 spot, they're about $150 each from Repco and they are a very good light. There is a cheaper Ziel but I don't think they're as good as the $150 ones.......The Nitestalkers are another good "economy" light....

I use the Lightforce 170's - I reckon the good sense of these is the ultra lightweight material they are made from - less mass = less damage on rough roads - very hard to break too - some special plastic - clip on covers in various shades make good sense too - just twist the lens to adjust the focus - they are a bit pricy but ............... if you decide on the LF's, consider the 240's - same globe, but much greater candlepower than the 170's (I chose the 170's because of the fit in the bullbar area).

Im sure if you tried hard enough you could get XGT's for mid/high 300's.. since the 240's were 420 on the packaging when I got 18 sets, and the XGT are 460, so only $40 diff in RRP...

I don't reckon you couldn't go past NARVA lights - I have them on my set-up and they are awesome! Mind you I do have a set of their GAS discharge lights which are second to none.

As you have no doubt noticed..........anybody who has a set of aftermarket lights reckon they are the best brand (or best value for money).
I had IPF900s on my 1st 4x4; then I had Cibie Oscars on my next one and now I have LF240 Blitz (2nd set........1st set got pinched!!! GGGGRRRRRRRRR) and can honestly say that each new set I bought was better than the previous ones. In other words, Lightforce are the best, Cibies are very good too (but much heavier and started to rust after 5 years on the GQ) and the IPFs were pretty good, but not as
bright (even with 130w globes, which used to last only a very short time) as the Cibies.
One significant thing about these Lightforce is the globes seem to last a very long time.

But your not comparing apples with apples here. To compare the Cibie Oscar with Light force 240 is just not on. The Oscar is a much smaller light and should be compared to the 170. I started off with a pair of Super Oscars - much larger and brighter than Oscars (like your experience, these turned out to be too attractive to the low life scum suckers in our society). However, I replaced them with the Oscars and can remember how disappointing I was initially with the lack of brightness compared to the Super Oscars. However, now, 20 years later - still have the same set of Oscars and am really happy with the light output. It was only the direct comparison that disappointed me. The good thing about the Oscars is that they fit the front of cars with ease. I even had them on a Volvo at one stage.

Correct of course.....but I think that the cost is about the same (could be wrong and will readily stand corrected). Therefore, if you have a certain amount of $$$$ to spend and want to get the "best/most" light for your hard-earned bucks, I believe the LF to be best value for money.
It follows that despite the Cibie's being a bit smaller and not as
bright, if they cost about the same, i don't believe they are as good value for money.

A thousand apologies......I just re-read my own comment (which prompted your response).......I had SUPER Oscars, not just "Oscars"; and it was these that I was comparing with the LF 240s that replaced them on my new truck in 2000.
