Ok, can someone clarify for me why there have been dramas with the Patrol motor but not the Navara...given that I am assuming the motors are the same minus the intercooler...or am I way off track here.

Many Thanks

As far as can be discerned from the outside they are the same. As you say minus the intercooler.

As far as I know the gearbox is a lighter one as well so maybe they just wanted to de rate the motor a bit to make it easier on the gearbox.

Same motor but no intercooler means less air in cylinder, means less fuel injected, means less of a bang in combustion chamber means less strain on small motor.
Possibly the Navara goes and is designed about right for the size of the engine where as the Patrol just seems to go too damn good for the weight it is pushing and the size of the engine.
I've got customers with Navaras pushing 100 000 km and they have been not regularly serviced and are going fine and I have customers with impecably maintained service records and they still went bang.
One of lifes mystery's.
The only issue with Navaras to date is the timing chains are a bit rattly but when you pull them down and see how big they are, you can understand why they would easily stretch as they aren't very big. I have only heard of one failing to date in a patrol so that is an isolated incident.

Cheers

g'day cruiser
is the lift pump in the zd30 strong enough to handle an extra fuel filter such as a lucas cav, what do you reckon?
cheers toohey.

I have only had customers request to have the OEM filters removed and the CAV type installed.
I can't comment on whether or not to run oem and cav.
All I know is they need impeccably clean diesel. The tolerance in the pumps is that fine and our diesel out here is dirty compared to Europe.
Hope this helps.

someone posted recently that the Navara has an older style turbo with a waste gate and not the variable vane as the Patrol. Who has a Navara manual??

My information is that the CAV is not as fine a filter as the Nissan type,if this is correct people replacing original filters with CAV are asking for trouble.
