Hi All,
Had my 89 SWB GQ (auto) for over a year now and love the old girl, but recently lost reverse. Tried Tranny fluid, to no avail. But after a 10km drive, i tried again and had no problem with reverse. Got excited but then next morning no reverse again. I'm hoping this is not going to be a big job, but am hoping someone might be able to offer any advice at all on how to proceed... Thanks Heaps, Jeremy..

I hope I am wrong but it sounds expensive. The autos cost thousands to do.

Hi JeremyS,
My experience with most things, look for the simple things first.Put it in for a gearbox service..powerflush,bands adjusted...from there if it doesn't fix it start looking around for replacement box.Hope this helps...good luck.

Old Jack in our club had the exact same thing in his GQ LWB. Lost reverse, but everything else worked.

The journals in the auto were blocked, and it was a $4000 complete rebuild.

Call rodney at Wholesale Automatics in Bayswater Victoria, he is the GQ Auto Pro. Let him know what the story is, he may have some options for you to try first.

I reckon I know where there's a GQ you could buy for not much more than that...
