Hi All, I am looking at buying a 5-6 year old 12v 60L SupaKool fridge that I have seen for around $400, it is in perfect condition. I see they have changed their name to EvaKool but was wondering if they made a good fridge and it would be worth buying. Alternatively I can also get a Waeco 70L fridge that is almost new , been used 5-6 times and is round $700..

Any thoughts plse..?

As long as its been retrofitted with a Danfoss Compressor they are fine.

Thats what I have.

Their original compressors were poo and commonly failed.

Its about $700 to retrofit one.

Thanks for the reply. Yes even Evakool just told me not to buy this fridge as a new compressor would be $820.00. Thanks for the advice..

If it is a SuperKool, I would NOT touch it.

I had one and had the compressor replaced twice under warranty, as did 5 other people in our 4WD club. The compressors were either a single piston or dual piston compressor made in the Gold Coast and frankly, they were bleep .

When the company that made the compressors failed, Nexburg (the parent company of SoperKool and EvaKool) bought all the spare parts. When they ran out, they started to offer customers a retro fit to a Danfross compressor. They then changed the name to EvaKool and as you probably know, these fridges now use the Danfross compressor exclusively, and now have a good product.

I guess what I am saying is that there are no parts for the compressor if it uses the older style compressor, If it looks like thisSupaKool then it is one of the original with the faulty compressors, and if thats the case, I would suggest that it is best to steer clear of the fridge.

On the other hand, if it has had the retro fit and is running a Danfross, then go for it I guess, because you wont get a better constructed icebox, because thats what they essentially were before the company decided to habg compressors off them.

BTW, I removed the compressor from mine and using some expanda foam and fibreglass, converted mine back to an icebox.

Waeco is a safe option - not sure about a 70L - did they make one ? Nothing listed currently. My new 60L was $1035 in SA - 9 weeks back - may be a guide - IF the used Waeco is a superceded model - older style controls, $700 would be a bit rich in my view.
