I have a Terrano 2 with 2.7 TDI & have no problems at all with the CAV filter/
water trap fitted as
well as standard filter.

I have a CAV in line with the Nissan standard filter on a 3.0 litre Patrol,no problems at all ,recommended by the service dept of Yarra valley Nissan.
The CAV are a coarser filter than the Nissan type so do not impede flow.

Toohey, the CAV goes first as it has the inbuilt
water seperator, the idea is to be able to see the
water as it collects and be able to drain it off before it gets to the original filter.
With the original filter you are not aware of the
water buildup until the inbuilt sensor operates (if it works).
My understanding is that the CAV type has a amaller and coarser element fitted which does not effect the fuel flow to the engine.
