Hello all,
A good friend of mine is after a GPS. He would like a portable one that he can carry around, but would also like to be able to mount it in his truck to do the road directions thing. But that's not all, he would like it to have RCA outputs so he can use the DVD screen he has already installed. Is this possible, or is he just romancing the stone? I have looked around but cannot find anything that does all of those things. I told him to buy a UBD. Your assistance would be appreciated.
Tanka.

Definetly "romancing the stone". GPS's can be only be connected to external screens if via a computer.

Tanka,

Tell him to look at at a Garmin Map 60C. Colour screen, easy to see and carry, with City Navigator he can get route directions, text on screen but not voice.

Ditto re Garmin GPSMAP 60C..
Perfect for hand held bush Nav, also can be fitted to your dash usinga RAM mount and connect to your Laptop for Top Navigation and can alos used Blue maps (Marine maps for Water Navigation).. I recommend he get onto Johy Appleseed GPS in Brisbane and if he explains to them what he wants to achieve with his GPS, they will help him out with identifyingthe right one for his needs. Cheers

RCA Outputs? My 60CS kills!, the voice directions are overrated IMHO, I like the arrows on the 60 MUCH better

For what it's worth, I recently purchased a Garmin Quest. My research has paid off (so I believe). I am very happy with it, maps of superb quality, auto routing with voice instructions, works REALLY well, portable (has it's own power supply), will connect (USB) to a computer and comes with suitable software to enable pre planning and uploading/downloading of routes, waypoints etc. Came complete with cables (USB and DC power supply software etc) Cost me $880.00 from GPSOZ GPSOZ

PDA with TV out will do what you're asking - portable and car mountable GPS with the ability to hook up to the in-car dvd.
