Hi All, We are going to spend three weeks in the eastern Kimberley next September and are considering travelling down the Tablelands track from the Gibb River Rd to the great Northern Highway en route to the Bungle Bungles. The question is has anyone driven the track this year, or last, and if so what should we expect. I realise it's fairly hardcore in parts, but is it passable all the way through? Any thoughts would be welcomed.

As I recall when we went to Mornington Camp this year there was a sign at the Tablelands turnoff saying "NO THROUGH ROAD" to the Great Northern Highway - it is on private property and the station said it was closed

Correct - This road is closed and has been so for some time - See the Kimberley Road Conditons Map. Text from Halls Creek Shire Report.

"The track past Tablelands HS and through Bedford Downs station is closed"

Hi PatrickW,

I was there late September, early October this year and as the earlier replies stated the road is closed. You can get through from the Gibb River Road to the Great Northern Highway on the Windjana Gorge/Tunnel Creek Road which gets you out at Fitzroy Crossing.

Also word of advice, late September is getting pretty hot with temperatures around 40 degrees C.

Last time we were up on the GBR/Mitchell Falls we didn't have one bad camping spot. The pick of the bunch from the kid's point of view was Manning Gorge. Camping is next to a Billabong for swimming (with rope on tree when we were there), toilets and showers close by. Take provisions for all day stay at gorge as swimming there is great. However, we were there in July when there was plenty of water and the falls were flowing, I don't know what it is like in September.

Thanks Nick, very helpful, the kids are already excited at the thought of a Billabong and a rope!
