A Quick run from Brissy to
Roma and back was required yesterday, so 4.30am I jump in the Nissan.
Got to
Ipswich (45km about) my first stop which should have been about 30mins turned into 3hrs because someone that was supposed to let me into a building site early had decided he needed his beauty sleep more than I needed to get to
Roma arghh. So now I'm going to have to climb the
Toowoomba range with a full load in the heat of the day, yep you guessed it, the Nissan goes back to the good ol days of not being able to keep it's cool in a stressful situation (unlike me who was doing quite
well considering).
Turns out some machine parts I had taken as replacements to be fitted at
Dalby weren't doing what they were supposed to, so with some perserverance (and a little swearing) I made them work. Left
Dalby at 5.30PM, I should have already been in
Roma by now but anyway thems the breaks.
The rest of the run to
Roma was uneventful, just lots of rain. But the return leg was almost completely disastrous when I heard a booming sound coming from the rear end, was it just the rain echoing on the underside of the car?? don't know, slowed down to try to listen.... no noise, speed up again and slot it into 5th (110kph) back comes the noise. Oh $hit I'm thinking not another 5th gear failure, I couldn't bear it, but the noise was definately coming from the rear end so not possible to be gearbox. Slow down again noise stops??? just as I'm starting to get a bit of cofidence that nothing is wrong BOOM phulmp phulmp phulmp. The rear tyre says goodbye to this world. OK OK it's belting down rain 10PM and I'm not in the mood for this (no phone service to call RACQ to do it for me ;-( ) but still went ahead and got thoroughly drenched changing the tyre. Got going and about 1/2hr later I hit a patch of
water that was covering the road, with
water going over the roof and every where else the Nissan pulled up without blacktop under us (in the culvert) CRAP, how am I going to get out of this. Low range second and it crawled out to my suprise. Only made it back to
Miles and decided to call it a night (almost morning). Ended up, this morning I was lucky I decided to push on the night before cause the road had been closed behind me for flash flooding.
Anyway made it home but unimpressed with that bloke they call Murphy, so if you ever see him you can tell him I'm
gunning for him LOL.
