Crow,
I have been to the distillery (The Hoochery) at
Kununurra and purchased a 1.125 litre bottle of their
Ord River Rum.
I didn't hear any reference to it being called
Kimberley Diesel while in that region though.
I do know one thing, I'd rather drink it than diesel any old day, it is a bloody good drop.
Geoff.

Agreed Squizzy Geoff, it's top stuff.
Bought a bottle of coffee and chocolate liquer and have managed to resist tempation and it's still half full a month after I've returned from
Kununurra.

Likewise Tim, we also bought the chocolate and coffee liqueurs.
The gentleman behind the bar also boxed the bottles carefully for me, as we were still to do the
Gibb River Road.
Didn't break one of them.
We found them to be very helpful and friendly, and their rum mud cake is delicious.
He said it was the first licensed distillery in WA.
Geoff.

They guys on Surfing The Menu (ABC TV) talked about it the other day. Had no idea they grew sugarcane up there let alone made rum.

I've read somewhere that the better known rums are made from the dark mollasses end of the sugar can story - just about down the stock feed end of the chain - maybe the
Kununurra mob buy the base stock in rather cheaply ?
Anyway, I guess its worth about $5 a bottle and federal excise takes care of the rest - all 37% spirits are near on 63%
water anyway - hell we get ripped off in this world ! But I'll be buying a bottle when up that way next year !

Thanks guys I'll be up there in June 06 but I think I'll give them a ring to send me some before Xmas that way if I like it I'll get more than one bottle to bring home next year.

I am pretty sure Kimberly Diesel is slang for the
Ord River Rum sold at the Hoochery in
Kununurra.Ihave tried it and although I enjoyed it ,I wasn't that impressed as I come from the Carribean where there are some excellent rums that don't get exported to Aus.If you enjoy a good rum try to get hold of a bottle of Mount Gay rum from Barbados. It is available in some bottle shops ($32) and you will see the difference.

I'll drink to that Rambler - Mount Gay is the smoothest Rum that I've tasted. Second is Caruba.

Dunno about that one, but the Canefire Rum from up that way isn't a bad drop.
