Hi everyone.
My Dad owns a 1996 Nissan Patrol Turbo Diesel and would like to change the fuel filter himself and has purchased all relevant replacement parts. His BIG question to all you wonderful 4WD enthusiests is.......How do you change the filter? Basically he does not want to spend big dollars having it done by his mechanic if the job is realitively easy.
Thank you in advance if you have the advice that will help my Dad save a $ or $$.

Merry xmas

Branded,
The filter undoes anti clockwise. Use a woolies plastic bag or similar(pref 1 inside the other for double strength) to catch the spilt diesel. The water indication sender will have to be disconnected first before you spin the filter off. It is the plastic fitting with the lead coming out of it that is located on the bottom of the filter. Replace with new filter and operate primer plunger until it goes hard.
Hope all goes well...

If you have to ask, I would suggest you pay the big dollars & get it done by someone who knows what they're doing.
Big dollars? It would take all of 15 minutes, go & watch, then you'll know how it's done.

Diesel fuel filters can be a mongral to get off, I have to undo the cast bracket from the fire wall and put it in a vice then give it all hell of curry to get the bugger off. Don't do the new one up too tight! do it up finger tight run the beast for a while and check for leaks. Also a bit of oil around the seal(like you do with an oil filter) should help to get it off easier on the next one. Make sure you drain all the diesel out of the bottom via the tap before you remove it, otherwise you will make a big mess. It's not hard, just watch out for those few things and you'll be fine. You might find that after you prime it it starts good, but after sitting around a few hours it might be hard to start again, don't stress it'll go and that's normal.

No matter how loose you put it on the time before, it always seems to have 1,000,000 ft lbs of torque to get it off. I always take the sensor off, then take the entire bracket off and turn it upside down and bolt back on, sooooo easy to take off. I use an oil filter remover. Good luck.
