I am interested in any information regarding the King Spur Track/Mayford Track, what is the condition of the track and is there any good camping available at the end?
Also could anyone comment on the Blue Rag track after the Trig, is it worth doing and is there any camping available?

Blue Rag is quite interesting after the Trig, there is a small camping spot down at the river, but it is not very good.

MFD,

It's been 2 1/2 years since I've been down to Mayford, so can't comment on recent additions like trees etc, but we did it in a standard 90 series Prado (ie, no lift, Grand Treks etc). It is a little bit lumpy in places, but far from 'rock hopping' - take it slow and you'll be fine.

There is some lovely camping down there, though the old town is now very open in the centre - those who get there first will pick up the best spot (at about 1 o'clock as you enter the valley - just down a small incline, well shaded and next to the river.

There is a hut on the way in on the left, and if you look hard, you'll find the ruins of the old pub (at about 8 o'clock using the same reference, and about 150 m up from the valley floor.

MFD. There used to be a sign at the top of King Spur that read: "The return trip from Mayfords may be impossible after rain" & although the track has improved a a fair bit since then it does get very slippery. As far as the Mayfords track that heads out the other way I'm sorry but you are about 14 years too late. What was one of the most challenging tracks in Victoria is long closed. I loved the sign on that one: "This track is not recomended for vehicles. It is extremely rough, steep and dangerous. Serious accidents have occured". It averaged out at about 20 degrees over the two kilometre climb with a nice 45 degree rock ledge in the middle. If you can't tell this was our favorite playground back in the 80's & have some great photo's of 4by's wheel standing up there:-)
As Ivan mentioned a few nice camps down on the flats but not a great deal of shade if you are late.
The track down from Blue Rag into the Wonnangarra is straight forward, probably 2nd low at worst with one small half decent camp. Best left to the keen fisherman. Not much to see but they are all worth doing.
Cheers Craig.......................
