As I warned you all, I have the bug for posting pictures now that I have learned how to do it (thanks again Truckster).

I thought it could be an interesting thread for all to post the picture they have that "tells 1000 words"

Mine is from a trip up the Border Track where my lad and I did the initial stage in the dark and got beaten by a dune (amazing how much bigger they seem in the dark when you don't know how much loud pedal to give them). We gave this two goes then decided reversing down in the dark was just too hard and camped for the night at the bottom. The shot is taken the next morning when we walked up ... oh so close!

Anyone got any other pictures that tell a story?

(If no-one responds I will get the message and stop posting such stuff)

And there was not a shoe in sight in my photo! I thought it was a good one but perhaps you are pointing out that something was missing???

It is a great picture Casnat. It certainly is an effective description. Keep posting.

Please excuse me while i digress. This morning i sent my daughter to find where the teenage rams had got through the fence into the teenage ewes, and she discovered the fault in the fence and announced she'd fixed it - with a cable tie!

There was quite definitely evidence of shoes being worn at the scene, Your Honour ... I respectively submit Exhibit A (the photo in the original post).

Your "handle" may be gramps but it's a long while since I have been refered to as "young grasshopper". Not that I mind of course!

Anyway, enough stiring late at night from you.... where's your photo?

with or without shoes will be acceptable (but laces mandatory!)

Steve,

It was the way this critter kept cuddling up to my boot and making a sound suspiciously like "Brazilian" that had me really worried :)))))

Naaah. The grandson gave me a pair of Vroom vroom (his words) slippers in the shape of motorbikes. As happens with motorbikes, I've had a few spills and lost exhausts and other bits.

The big fluffy slippers would attract even more undesirable attention, so I keep them for special occasions :)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

cruised over it the next morning in the daylight. The dark adds another dimension that you cannot explain. I have done it a few times now and it is worth experiencing if you haven't before.

Doing it the second time in the dark was easy after experiencing the 1st time and then how easy it was the next morning in the light. The 1st time I was far too hesitant to hit the gas because I couldn't feel what was ahead.

Sounds weird but is worth trying

Cas .... for the record.... re that soft, powdery sand.......other readers may be interested in your vehicle, the load and the all important tyre pressures at the time....could be instructive to "sand driving newbies" - as you say, you sailed through in the daylight !

Hi Banjo,

we were in a GU Patrol not carrying a huge load (only the lad and I on a 1 nighter). Pressures at the time were about 22 from memory.

I assume the photo was on the exit and not the entrance? Would be a gutsy attempt if that was on the approach!

Yes it was the exit, looking at further pics the the entry doesn't look half as bad.

They were a couple of young blokes who called themselves nature photographers, they'd gone just a tad too far up the track the previous evening so they set up camp on the side of the track and waited for the next vehicle.
