I have just tried to do the Big River trek as detailed in the Boiling Billy Publication "4WD treks close to Melbourne" (Trek number 13)
We found it impossible to complete as all the higher ridges in the area are impassable due to windfall - there are tress down all over the place. It would take weeks to clear the tracks and would require heavy equipment.
I do not know if the forestry people intend to clear these tracks.
So, if anyone intends to visit this area, your activities will be restricted on the higher ridges.

The parks site mentions all the down trees, and tracks that are/have been cleared.
Its been mentioned here before the same , and a list is read out at most club meetings of the areas they have/are
clearing..
Although lots were cleared, and then another storm came through...
some tracks have even been stuffed to the point of needing to be recut totally

We were up there last month and most of the tracks from Big River up to the ridges at
Matlock were all blown around. Some Rangie club guys had just spent all day on the chains and chainsaws to get just 4klms down the Frenchmans spur track.
