Not a 4x4 but my work car is a BA falcon and the seatbelt chime is annoying as it keeps going until you clip the seat belt in. I know it is meant to be for saftey but at times you may only want to move the car or are not quick enough putting the belt on and it is ringing. I have found out how to disable the chime which is switch ign on, hold down the hazard lights switch, put in the belt, remove and put back in again, release hazzard lights button.

It makes you wonder with modern 4X4's if you are out in the middle of nowhere what would happen if you did, by accident, go through some rediculas combination of pushing buttons ect, what the outcome would be. EG deprogram the security coding on your ignition key ?

John, We have hundreds of BAs in our company. One guy works on a very large site so he is always in and out of the car and doesnt need the seatbelt. After complaining to the local Ford dealer several times they relented and told us how.

pete, do you know how to make the radio work instead of having to pull it out to reset it please? It has to be hard reset every few weeks in the ute. I bet is it doesn't happen with yours Bonz but you wouldn't admit it anyway.

John, Not sure exactly what you mean, the only issue I have had is when you get in sometimes the radio, A/C, fan ect ( all in the radio command thingy ) dont work and it just shows code on the radio. The radio doesnt have a code, it is refering to the ignition key. For some reason it sometimes doesnt acknowledge the key so the radio wont work. I usually turn the car off, remove the key few a minute then start again. Do you have a phone kit directly connected to the radio, I think this is what upsets it as I usually plug in the phone just before putting the key in, which is usually when the phone comes up charging and momentarily triggers the radio to phone.

pete, the radio doesn't have anything connected apart from the plug of the antenna and the normal Ford plug. We heard from the local autolec that they had found that some radios worked if they had them on the bench for a day or so if they ceased working. This one does periodically and has to be completely disconnected from power as ABSOLUTELY nothing is visible on the screen......... NUTHING It will reset and work again after it has been disconnected from power a while. Code to enter too of course and stations to reset. What a bugga of a standard radio/cd combination.

If you are a Ford man, a colleague with a Ford LTD has an interesting one. With the ignition off it has a negative 4 amp current going somewhere - unfound last week as far as I know. Just a huge battery discharge. Flatten to no-start ...... with a new battery.

John, cant say I am a Ford man by choice. But of the BA Falcons we have, here are a few things that go wrong, as I said we have hundreds of them so this will give a fairly true account. Those that are on LPG: blowing fuses on the gas system, solenoid and relays blowing, after starting and putting the foot down can make them go bang ( and I mean like a cannon ) and they then wont start for 5 minutes. When the LPG plays up and towed to Ford it can be at Ford for a week until they think they have found the problem. You cant fill an LPG car if the temperature reaches 38 degrees. We have now dropped the LPG. OVERALL: Handbrake fails, brakes fail, Brake rotors need machining every 30,000, Diffs fail, rear suspension on wagons sag on one side ( nothing wrong with that according to Ford ), suspension bangs and clunks, ( mine has done it from new but after 6 days on and off in Ford I gave up and live with it after they replaced the entire rear end before it hit 2,000 km, )
