Engel Fridge problem

Just went to my 40l Engel to restock the fridge with some cold ones, and found the inside temp (according to my Dick Smith dual temp gauge) to be -17 degrees. Beer inside frozen solid. Damn !!!!!

The Engel rarely gets opened at home, but sits in a sunroom that can get quite warm, and I often notice the it cycling on and off. At -17 degrees do you experienced folk think there is a problem with it, or is it just working extremely well. It certainly works well on the road.

Thanks

Jack

Don't mean to be condescending but sometimes the simple solution is the right one so to state the obvious that usually happens to me with my 35L waeco when the lid is not closed properly.

Hi Porl. It is closed and "latched up". There is just the tiny wire that comes out for the thermometer, which I don't think would give me any grief.

That may be the problem then, as I forgot to mention that the setting was just above "On", where it says "Cool". Thanks.

My 40 is , setting on 1 = beer too warm for me but the letuce doesn't freeze
2= just freezing the beer & I get told off for freezing the lettuce.

I use the setting just short of 2 & it works the same to me weather in the car or shed for great lengths of time, so I'd sugest its your thermostat, that the thing that tells the motor to turn on & off up the your setting.

Maybe SWMBO could try powdered lettuce in future - after fuel and water, beer is the most important camping commodity :-)

Sounds like the thermostat has died.
My Engel is set at one and a half and keeps the internal temp around 3deg.
Suits me for the beer and all the other food items.
You can get a spcl container for lettuce that can be placed on top of the beer/food in you chest fridg and this is supposed to stop it freezing.

I used to have a handle on life, but it broke.

Cheers Dodg.

Any dick would know that lettuce and beer don't mix...that's why u have one Engel unit for the beer (21litre) and the other 40 litre one for SHMBO ..and the lettuce..

I just find it hard to believe that anyone would allow lettuce within cooee of an Engel. There are other makes of fridges more suitable.
