We are planning to drive the
Holland Track as the first part of our 4 month trip thru and across the top of oz. We were intending to leave in mid May. Does anybody know if the track is usually open at that time of year.i.e. is there normally much rain then? Also how cold does the
great central road get in late May. Thanks in advance

The only time I've heard it to be closed was after the fires this or last year, it will be more likely the
Hyden Norseman road to be closed after rain and you will not be able to get onto the track. Ph the Toyota Land Cruiser Club of Western Australia inc. they maintain and upgrade the track in conjunction with CALM and Track Care WA
As for the GCR if you are in
Perth today the 11/12/05 it's cold
well it will get colder than this that the worn clothes

Were talking freezing at night if you left a
water bottle out overnight it will be a brick.
that time of the year I would have long paints (jeans) thick shirt and a jumper once the sun goes down its time to cuddle up in side what ever your going to sleep in. (wear a beany tracky dacks even woollen gloves) getting soft in me older age.
The days are just right cool enoth to take the jumper off LOL.
It's a nice time of the year to be traveling in that area
Good Luck
Richard

Yep, that time of the year isn't quite the coldest, but you may find a few two dog nights :))

We did the
Holland Track in mid May this year. A lot of the country had been burnt out in February this year. We accessed the track after rain and there were lots of puddles to contend with. The northern part of the track has lots of twists and turns and you are working the steering wheel hard even at a slow speed. There are also many stakes on the side of the track which have been worn down by the traffic over the years but still need to be avoided.
We bumped in to the
Perth TLC on the second day and they were repairing burnt out signs. We left the
Holland Track at the
Southern Cross Rd
intersection and made for the Hyden/
Norseman road.
Nice country in
places and a worthwhile trip
