oil changes

Have read with interest about extended oil and filter changes, but was wondering if people are doing this with new cars out of warranty or are people doing this from day 1 with brand new vehicles. I have a 100 series L/C 10000km on clock, standard diesel and cant decide which way to go.

Peter people are doing it both ways. My new vehicle is nearly up for its first service and will be opening up the bypass filter and changing to synthetic oil.
In the trucking game, many are done at delivery.
