After reading the positive comments on the GME TX610, I've decided to purchase one.

Can the GME TX610 use the UHF repeaters ?

Thanks in advance

Further to my brief reply. Having less power and a smaller antenna than a car type unit will mean that you won't get a repeater from as far away, but depending on repeater location you could still get access to a repeater from more than 20-30 km away

Yes it can and by the way I think all sets on the market now can - fact is it's not much use having one without repeater access. Strongly suggest you get a set with 5watt power output as all in car units and some hand helds have. Previous post suggested the set you're looking at doesn't have 5 watts so check first. I have a TX4400 (5watts)and also a small Uniden which has only half a watt. The little one is great for car to car and up to about 3km but no where near as good as the TX4400 for longer distances. With repeater use the TX4400 has given great performance in excess of 100km.

The TX610 has 1W output. Certainly not as powerful as the 5W of the TX4400 or the 5W/1W switchable output of the TX6000, but for a small handheld, its twice the output as most other units its size and price range. I also have a TX4400 and will be getting a TX610 as my portable unit.
