I just bought the Australian Metro Guide Software today and parted with $180 and I have to say I'm pretty disapointed with it. Sumerset
dam is not even on it ( the
Dam) or Wivenhoe which are seriously big waters and the maps are from 2002.
I know I should have done my homework but I thought everybody sells it and it must be ok. Just wish I could earn my money that easy.

Hi Reiner,
I agree with what you are saying about Metroguide not showing most signifcant waterway systems very
well. It seems to show most dams as the single line river before the
dam went in.
You can download the Tracks4Australia maps for free and install them as
well on your GPS.
We went bush last weekend and the major tracks were better and named properly on the Metroguide maps but the minor tracks were more detailed using the T4A maps.
I just wish Garmin/Mapsource would pull their finger out and give us the equivalent set of topographicals for Australia that they have available in the U.S. Every year for the last 3 years somone says they will be released by the end of the year.

Brett, I downloaded the T4A maps but cant make them work. The file endings are .img and I havn't found a way to open them yet.
We kayak a fair bit and I was hoping I could use the maps on the water as
well. Did you unlock all Australia? I'm wondering if you only unlock half you get better maps?
I saw too that any upgrades only better the software but not the maps. Very slack.

Did you have Metroguide installed before installing T4A?
The T4A maps install into mapSource and will appear as another product along-side Metroguide.
Once installed you will be able to upload them in the same way you upload Metroguide.

I was going to post a 'post' asking for a evaluation sample of City Navigator Australia V6.
Does anyone have a copy that i can have a look at?
I have the Garmin Mapsource and Waypointer software, and i am only interested in the
Gold Coast Area. Using a Etrex unit. So can see all the streets etc of the
Gold Coast?
How do the unlock codes work. I think someone mentioned that you can unlock cetain sections - do you pay Garmin to get the codes for the area you want to look at or use?
But if anyone can let me have a look at City Navigator Australia V6 i would be gratefull.
Thanks,
Alan.

Hi Alan
Not sure how the City Navigator works but with Metro Guide you get a unlock code send to you after you send them your software number and your gps code.
I;m one of those peole who reeds the instructions later.....in this case I think I shouldnt have unlocked all Australia and I might have btter maps. I found Tracks4Asutralia with free maps and more detail.
Lets hope Bill gates gets his hand on GPS software soon, at least we know it will work if it has Microsoft on the box.
cheers

Paul,
Just think of the benefits. When you're lost just press the reboot button and your memory is erased, fuel is back in the tank and you're back to where you started LOLOLOL

I have CN 6. It will run on any laptop or pooter. The unlock codes are for the GPS unit only and they unlock the maps for use in the GPS.
What area do you want to look at ? I can bring it up and email u the roads detail etc.
CN6 has all the metroguide roads as
well as lots more. Many outback roads
Vic high country etc, its not too shabby, but not a lot of the
Simpson desert, if that makes sense, it has pretty good detail. Its not perfect, some roads that connect are shown as not intersecting, and some are in the slightly wrong place, but otherwise its pretty good.
Lets hope Bill Gates NEVER gets his hands on GPS software

Hi Bonz,
The only area i really wanted to have a look at was the
Gold Coast.
I'm just wanting to see how good all this stuff is.
If it's possible to email me 'something', could you send it to aheywood@bigpond.net.au
I have Mapsource but could not get the Tracks4Australia img to work. But i think i need MetroGuide to get T4A to work? Too much money to 'have a look'.
If you can help, it would be appreicated.
Thanks,
Alan.
