Hi all, have a 3l turbo diesel hilux and as with my last hilux want more power. Have come across the dtronic for hilux http://www.safari4x4.com.au/dtronic/toyota/sd143.htm
20% more power 16% more torque. Does any one have experiance with the dtronic. Are they worth the $1400. Or is the moner better spent else where. Intercooler??

Don't know about the Hilux, but I know of several guys that have them in their 3.0 Patrols. They recon best money ever spent.

G'day there,

depending on where you are located, there is a bloke up in Brisbane who retunes diesels and sets them up well. There was an article in 4x4 Monthly mag about him, John Whitacker (??) I think his name is. He runs Brisbane performance tuning. I've heard some good things from people that have been to him. The good news is that he appears to know the 1KZ-TE quite well. From what I'm told he will get similar figures to the chip option.

Hope this helps.

On mornington peninsula near melbourne. Brisbane a bit far to travel for a tune up. Do you know if he has to turn the boost up for these power gains?

G'day,

yeah a tad too far to drive for that. From what I've heard he does a combination of new injectors, pump mod, a little increase in turbo boost and the fitting of a mandrel bent exhaust. Have talked to a guy who has had this done to a Toyota Surf and he said the increase was fantastic. Add to this there was no adverse affect to the economy of the car.

Cheers.

Have not tried Dtronic but have heard good things. Have had unichips before and usually get a good result.

Best option would be to combine the Dtronic with a 3" exhaust, Intercooler and boost controller, it will then be a real beast !! but will cost $$$$

These Dtronics systems look really good so I asked at the local ARB shop. They advised against it if the vehicle is still under warranty as this would be negated. At least they were honest! Has anyone installed one yet? How would it void warranty if they are only optimising injector timing?

It certainly does void the warranty.

Its an aftermarket accessory performing a function on the motor. Nissan wont touch it.

Mind you its only a minute or so to remove it, before service.

Ask Safari if you can put one in then test drive it before you decide to buy, if they are confident in the product they should agree. It only takes 5-10 min to pull out and put back.
