Roof rack for Patrol

The pro's as I see it, is room to carry those soft/light things that take up a lot of room in the back of the vehicle.

The con's is the extra wind drag and fuel usage created by them.

Any rack with a full length gutter rail so as to spread the load is in my opinion the better one to get.

ARB rack is damn heavy, but solid, equals not so likely to break in really rough terrain, but is half a load before you put anything on it

There is probably more pro's than con's. I love having the rack and now that I have one I keep thinking why did I not get one ages ago

I used an ARB rack recently and it is extremely heavy. It did the trick but if you need to remove it it requires 4 ppl. I think it's just as easy to tow my offrad trailer.

Mate has a Rhino on the Patrol. Very happy with it. Plenty of accessories. Looks OK too.

I have an old TJM alloy full length. I can fit it myself when i need to and it is easy to carry back into storage when not used. Strong as anything. I even walk along it when i have to without any problems. I have carried some heavy stuff on it for certain trips and i can say it has not let me down. It has served me well on 2 GQ's now, Id say it was used for well over 400,000 kms in its life time ..and heaps more to go.

I am very pleased with the 1800 Rhino rack on ROLA bars on my Patrol. It is really well made (even survived a scrunch under a concrete car park height indicator!). I think it weighs about 18KG, at least half the weight of an ARB. And it doesn't make any wind noise. Good range of accesories.

Initially I thought that the screws that hold it all together would come loose, but they don't move even on the roughest tracks. I still check them periodically though.
I chose the ROLA bars because they were more streamlined than the Rhino ones at the time, however Rhino now have streamlined ones as well.

I have "Tradesman" brand. Was cheaper than the others and after 2 years of use and travel has not given any hint of problem. Still a 2 person removal and fit. Purchased through Opposite lock in Preston.

Hi, we have a set of Rhino bars (x3) and the medium Rhino basket. It is nice and light, yet very sturdy. Before we put anything in, we put some of those camping mats in first. Thing hasn't moved and because if the design (open basket), it doesn't create much drag or anything - I just leave it on now, as is gets used at least once a month! - Jo
