My parents are looking at trading in their old Ford and buying a Ford Territory for towing their Van (1600kg). As I don't know anything about this car I was wondering what the gearbox, engine etc is like for towing this sort of weight.

Thanks,

I bent all the vanes in the torque convertor in my NA Fairlane towing my little 18' fibreglass boat. I was dissapointed to say the least as I wouldn't consider this 'cruel or unusual' work for the old 'bookmakers special'. I only used to tow it for about 5km's each way too.

I'd advise caution.

Hi V8, NA Fairlaine came out in 1989!, things have moved along somewhat since then I would not expect any probs withe the current models.

True, but the NA still had the 'new' generation OHC six as found in the Territory.

The ford territory is nearlt 2 tonne and I have towed a 1 tonne trailer all thru the Gammon Ranges and a lot of the Flinders without one bit of a problem except for the physical restictions of the car (height/dry weather only/bloody weak tyres/etc). The car is thirsty - lucky to get 500k out of a tank but with the auto it hase great low torque.
