I've read a lot of posts about the 3ltr Patrols blowing. Is the motor in the 3ltr Navara the same? Does it have the same type of problems? My daughter is planning to purchase one for towing horse floats. She wants a ute and it has the best towing rate.

Hi Twinkles,
It seems to be isolated to the patrol 2000-2001 model as i have not heard many FIRST hand Navara drivers having problems. I have started a survey to determine the extent of the problem with the patrol but it does seem isolated to the early models. Also keep in mind it seems only to be an Oz problem, i am guessing either you work shifts or you are not from Oz by the time of your post. If you are from Europe then there seems to be no problem, maybe a fuel issue who knows. Or as a lot of people suspect a lot of the tales of the new ones blowing up are just that tall tales, from someone who knows someone whos uncles patrol blew up. But then again i am hoping the survey will provide some answers.

I'd guess Twinkles is from Australia, 'ute' is not a word used in Europe.

Scott the thought had crossed my mind too, with a lot more sulphur in our fuel until now. What effect that has on sensors that control boost, fuel and everything else in more highly tuned diesels has not been told. Companies like Mercedes and others have witheld their bigger higher tuned motors until now the fuel is coming to low sulphur standard the motors are being imported.

Scott,

I remember hearing that they recalled and replaced the 3 litre motors in Portugal. Not sure about elsewhere.

Cheers

Hi Phil G

They recalled all them in the UK as well and i am sure someone also said Romania recalled them. But in answer to the original post no recall for the navara.

As mentioned on other posts I spoke to a mechanic at Highway Diesel in brisbane and he said that he was replacing a 2003 ZD30 that had just blown up for a Nissan dealership, he also mentioned that he had replaced replacement motors for the nissan zd30. Not sure if they where all out of just navaras but logic would tell you that they are the same motor in the both 4wds so both would suffer from the same problems.

At this point you seem to have plenty of replies but no one has answered your question.

I hope this improves for the sake of the forum.

Opinions are like a******s everyone seems to have one.

I'm not sure I have a clear answer here. Thanks for the replies. I'm from the Mornington Peninsula south of Melbourne. Just couldn't sleep. Navaras are utes. They have a tub or tray and come with a 3ltr turbo diesel. Not interested in the petrol motor. The Patrol cab chasis only comes with the 4.2 ltr diesel.

Although the Nissans are cheaper than Toyotas, generally the Toyota will cost less in the long run............. :))

*oops!....ducks for cover!***

But you could save yourself a load of money alltogether, and get a LandRover diesel..Disco, Defender??

***Now this ought to be interesting :) ***
