We have recently purchased a laptop which we will be using with an Emap on future trips. Being relatively risk adverse we are keen to see what insurance is available for the two while we are out of the house (ie. not covered under home contents). We would be interested in hearing from anyone who has arranged insurance for their laptop or GPS unit that is of a comprehensive nature, and that has no domestic travel (whether by region or mode of transport) restrictions. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

for an additional premium my insurance company covered me when laptop was not in house. Premium was about 120 so I did not proceed but the option was there. I doubt that Motor Vehicle Insurance will cover you but try TCIS

Allyn - which insurance company was this - AAMI and NRMA have both said that they won't cover the laptop out of the house. I have also located a specialised insurer for Laptops - ITIS (IT Insurance Services) who seem to specialise in school laptop insurance (it seems Chubb Insurance underwrite the policies) - Premiums for comprehensive cover for a $3,800 laptop are around $499 for three years - not sure if this is decent value or not. In addition, am unsure about going with a small broker with insurance.
