When is the best time to hit the roads in Tassie?
Where are the best place to visit 2wd and of course 4wd camping is the prefered option? Would a roof top tent be a hinderance on the ferry?

There will be 2 vehicles both petrol LC 100 and a Jackero 4 adults and 4 kids 2-16 years.

Approx how much on the ferry?

March/April/May is my preferred time in Tasmania or the other end of winter last two weeks in September and October. You get to see Tasmania in Spring or Autumn which I reckon are just the best times.

For the ferry prices you can go to:

No, a roof top tent is no longer an issue on the boat.
The North West of Tasmania has so much to offer and there are just so many places to camp free out in the bush.
If you want to post an e-mail address, I will send you a map with some of the best places in Tasmania to go. I think I have travelled every road in Tasmania at least twice and found just so many great spots not normally on the tourist trail.

We're doing our 15th and 16th tours of Tassie this year... I've probably done each road 3 times! Often taken a rooftop tent.... One trip I had a large rotomould canoe on top of that! It's never been a problem. In fact you were always put on the bottom level with the trucks. Last on first off. I usually travel in Mid-Winter and Mid-spring due to school hols. Avoid the last because of wind and rain, particularly on the west coast. Mid winter is cold, but sunny usually with way less tourists.

You can do a circuit and up the middle in a couple of weeks. Don't worry about paying for too many guided tours, unless you're really into it. Pick a town and I'll tell you something to see nearby. Cheers Royce
