does anybody know if the bush fires in gippsland is anywere near
mitchell river and how safe would it be to venture between their and
dargo

Robert, the currently reported fires near Moe & Erica are a fair way from the
Mitchell River and I wouldn't like to say they could not travel that far and it is unlikley but fire can travel extraordinary distances given th eright conditions.
There is also the risk of new fires starting in the area you are going which wasn't burnt in the previous alpine fires so would most likely have big fuel loads. Talk to DSE and Parks to see their advice.
