Hi peter,
My Missus' is in charge of cleaning all of our fridges and eskys (including 40 ltr engel) after any camping trip.
She uses this stuff called "McLintocks vanilla fridge wipe and deoderiser".
gets it from the local
supermarket.
My engel and evacool ice box always smell great, even after being in storage for couple of months.
PS: What ever u do, DON'T buy a waeco
LOL

hotwater and jiff then wipe with vanilla essence then cut a couple of lemons in halves and leave them in the fridge for a day or so.

A mate got the green & black mat in the bottom of his 40 impregnated with a meat odour, couldn't get rid of it and had to go and get a new mat.
That's an expensive bit of plastic too by the way.

I'd say it's to stop the basket rubbing through the bottom of the refridgeration compartment.
