Has anyone heard of a slide on camper that is built in QLD? Goes by the name of either Carry Van, Carryvan or Carry-Van. They slide onto a flat tray ute, and are apparently ideal for off road camping. I'd be interested in comments from anyone who may already own one.

http://www.trayon.com/

This is a site for the trayon which is built at Kunda Park, Maroochydore.

I don't have one but have seen same up the cape and they look okay.

It's all horses for courses stuff. They would give single vehicle advantages etc but a pain to pack up camp to go down the road.

Thanks for your help (Alan H, Sparra & Sky Pilot). Sky Pilot, I looked up the Carry Van website, it looks very upmarket but apparently construction quality is poor. Might have to look at other slide on manufacturers.

We have been surveying the market for about 12 months for a slide-on and have narrowed our search down to 3. Wombat campers in Horsham build to order, Davshir campers in Colac build a basic design and also to order, and Islander campers in Tassie ( Davenport) build 3-4 designs plus to order. All range in price betweeen 24k and 34k depending on options. We dismissed the Carryvan as too big (high) and very clostrophobic inside, Trailblaisers also do a couple of designs, these are made in Canada and the internals are very flimsy (ioho). Good luck. Would be interested in what you find. Sue and Peter

We have a Trayon (Qld) Had it for about 4years. I have not seen anything better. Packing up is a pain but it's not the camper that is the problem. It is putting everything away, that you even have to do in a caraven to move it. Once everything is put away inside, I can close down and drive away in 5 minutes

The best part is the bed is already made up. It is the equivilant of a 13 foot caravan. Lots of space for two people
