I am a great fan of the Dakar Rally & am amazed at the speeds they travel on bad roads without seeming to have tyre troubles. Doe's anybody know what type of tyres are used & what pressures they use. It would be nice to have that sort of tyre reliability.

BFG Press Release on the subject

It would also be nice to have that many tyres!

I prefer my tyres to last months and not days!

Ciao for now
Andrew.

It is a long time since I was involved in rallying, but if you got 200k out of your tyres, you were slow, worn tyres make a big difference. When I was involved, most crews throw them away when the corners of the lugs become rounded. I suspect they use a lot of tyres.

Almost use use narrow section large diameter: 700 by 16 Kevlar construction is common. Others typically 235x 85 X 16.

Confirms my long-held view that widies are mostly for looks!

I reckon the tyres they use would bear as much resemblance to what is at your local bob jane as a holden Supercar resembles what you can buy at your local dealer
