g'day j.p
i went 245's with sunraysia rims this has proved to be for my requirments good enough, the standard rims in my opinion are to narrow for what you want to do.
cheers toohey.

J.P. I currently run 265/70r16 Maxxis A/T on my '04 DX dual cab, seem to work fine, however I have noticed they tend to wander on the bitumen if there's any water lying around. This I believe after talking to others that use the same tyre is in fact the tread pattern. They have been great on the highway towing 2 tonne, fine in the local forest, haven't had them on the sand yet though!
Cheers Anthony.

My apologies, I appear to have misread the original post. I don't use the standard rims, but 7" wide alloy rims.
cheers Anthony.

J.P,
The DX navara came standard with a 6" rim & the local tyre service told me that you shouldn't go wider than a 225. The ST-R came with a 7" rim & a 255 tyre.
If you want to go to a 265 you will need 7" rims. Also 15" dia rims wont fit unless you grind away part of the brake caliper.
Hope this helps
Cheers
Matty

15" rims do fit, you just have to
check the offset is enough to clear the caliper. I have two sets. 245x16 and 31x10.5x15.

This could raise the skinny v wide debate, but here we go. Firstly I will say that I run 265/76 x 16 on my Patrol. They work fine in all the circumstances, including sand at the right pressure. The importnt thing to remember is that diameter is probably more important than width in sand, as when you let some air out the footprint lengthens and gives better traction. There is less chance of planing on sealed wet roads too. On 6" rims a good size would be 235/85 x 16.
Happy camping,
Mike.

g'day mike
im heading the way of wider cause i dont want to lose out on power with the greater o.d.
Would you know the o.d. of 235/85-16.
I'll probrably end up running 255/70-16.
cheers buddy...

G'day JP,
It's easy enough to calculate. 235 is width and 85 = 85% of the width. I calculate a difference in the o.d to be 42.5mm. If you can take the 16"dia. as a given then you have 844.5 (235/85) as against 802 (255/70). Be interesting to see how calcs stack up to the tape measures out there - or follow gramps's suggestion.
Happy camping,
Mike.

Hi,
I upgraded to 265/70 r15,
dunlop A/T
Car runs fine, so steering problems, much better in the wet than standard tyres.
Just watch the speedo as it knows is out by about 5% (ie travelling faster than speedo says)
Thanks
