I am Currently making some drawers for the back of my Patrol, Could any body please tell the thickness of the steel the drawers are generally folded up out of. so I can calculate the weight as I am thinking of making them out aluminium to save some weight

thanks guys

Mine are made up of 2mm Galv Steel.
If you do it with ali, I seem to recall it is 1/2 as strong, but 1/3 of the weight of steel, so doubling the thickness should be about right and you'll still be lighter.
With the steel, it still has about 20mm diam box tube down the lengths of it to strengthen it and which rolls on steel ball bearings instead of slides. There is also a rolled swage all around the top of the drawer to strengthen it further.

I am having some folded at the moment and using 1.6mm.This is approx. what is used in those available such as Outback etc.2mm is overkill IMHO.-Steve

Hi Mule,

When you find some decent drawer runners let me know.

I'm installing drawers in my wagin and having a bugger of a job trying to find runners long enough and heavy enough to do the job.

Cheers,

Benn

Thanks Geoff ...

I'll give them a call.

Surprising how hard it is to get hold of something as straight forward as drawer runners (except that I need them 800mm long!).

Cheers,

Benn
