We after all the umming and aahing about our Ford Courier we took it for a
test today. Loaded the tray with 1 tonne of
grey gravel ( to try to emulate the slide on), we headed of to Walkers Flat. Along the freeway, of thro Verdun and Mt Plesant, over the 'badlands' and onward. Stopping at Saunders
Gorge Sanctuary (they have a 4wd loop track, tho didn't tackle it with 1 tonne on the tray...next time!!)then returning .......fuel consumption 10.7 lt per 100km....very pleased so far, tho we know it will not be so good with wind resistance with camper on.
So this leads to my next question...anyone have any experience with smartbars.
Thank for all your help so far

Mate,
I have had a Smartbar on my Cruiser since '99 and I love it. I haven't hit anything yet so I can't comment on that - but at the same time I don't swerve either especially in shopping center carparks.
You will get lots of different opinions - but if you want one go for it they are worth the money.

RE: The smartbar.
I wouldn't buy one for two reasons. The first is that I saw a demo some years ago at an engineering show at Penrith, where this dude swung a huge weight at the bar, and we all watched it bend right back, then pop back into shape. All
well and good for the bar, but pity about anything behind it (like your vehicle)...
The other reason is that Harold Screwball Scrubby was a spokesperson for them.
Cheers,
Chump

I saw a similar demonstration. Did you look at the mounting brackets?
The demo I saw cracked the mounting brackets (of the smart bar) where the bolts went through.

I must admit - i didn't look that close.
I had driven there in an ex-army landrover, surrounded by steel bars and things, and just laughed out loud.
Cheers

Have one on the Paj. No problems so far, but I don't go around looking for things to bump into either :-)
