My Prado has (had) a nice shiny plastic type spare wheel cover which I subsequently needed to take off to use the spare. Three quarters of an hour later, complete with torn finger nails, blisters and sunburn I managed to get the damn thing off with the assistance of a mate, as it seemed welded to the tyre . The tyre size was factory recommendation and yes, I did remember to unlock the catch. Is there a trick to this or is it just a case of leave it in the shed until its time to pretty the truck up to sell?

I have the same cover and I never had a problem removing it. Just undo the lock and pull from the bottom of the cover.
Although
mine is now sitting in the shed because I have changed tyre sizes.

I have one of those things on the Monterey, and it occurred to me that it would not stay attached to a flat or shredded tyre if the spare was needed
miles from anywhere.
So the damn thing is in the shed taking up much mre space than it deserves to.
