Hi all,

We are heading up to the Gulf in May. Our plan is to start the Gulf track at Borroloola and head east towards Normanton/Karumba, then along the Burke Development Rd to Dunbar before heading south again.

If we can we'd like to access the coast along the gulf somewhere but I am aware that Wollogorang is now closed. Can anybody advise of where it is possible to access the Gulf coast? I've looked through the archives and it seems access is (or at least was) possible via Hell's Gate. Is this spot recommended? Where else is there and what are the places like for camping?

Thanks in advance.

You can get to the coast from Borroloola--about 50 km to Bing Bong but there is not much there except a loading facility and the beach access is limited. You will find that the access to the coast has been closed at Woollagorong,Hells gate, and Escot, so make the best of Karumba which is a great spot. The road East from Maggieville through Dunbar gets a bit rougher and is hard on tyres so take it easy on that section.Ishould be going through there inJuly /Aug.
