Hi

We have a 95 hilux that keeps stopping every time we put the accelerator down to go fast. The car hasn't been used for a long while and we thought maybe the diesel has gone off, but maybe the petrol filter is clogged.

Does anyone have any ideas??

Thanks

"the diesel has gone off, but maybe the petrol filter is clogged."...weel, if its a diesel it won't have a petrol filter, will it ? :))
However it will have a fuel filter which could be blocked. You may also have the diesel "bug" in your system, which will clog up your filter.

I reckon he was already on the way...identify possible causes and seek to eliminate until solution established. Of course there is always a mechanic to consult if it all gets too hard. Cheers

I had a problem with my first Hilux, an '84 2.2 diesel. When I put my foot down it would surge or stall. Rang dealers, mechanics and Toyota. Finally got an answer, which was correct, from a diesel mechanic in Melbourne. The metal tube from the top of the fuel tank which extended to the bottom of the tank and had a simple filter on the bottom had developed a crack at the top and movement caused it to flex and open or close the crack, so sometimes sucking air.

No, no, no, you've got it wrong. The hiclone is in backwards and instead of sucking harder when you put you foot down, it blows back up and stalls the engine.

check your air filter, could be blocked with a birds nest or critter crap.
