Has anyone done the trip between Mungo and Willandra Nat Parks - either way?

If so, what's the best route?

Tony,
don't know where you are leaving from but we have done the trip from Canberra several times. Normal route is Canberra, Wagga, Narrandera, Hay, Balranald, Bidura Station (stay overnight with the owners who are friends, they also rent out the shearers quarters), Mungo, Ivanhoe, Willandra, Hillston, Rankin Springs, Wyalong, Temora, Harden, Yass, Canberra. Total distance is about 1740km. Mungo has a basic camping area or a private resort style place. Willandra offers camping or now there are rooms in the refurbished homestead.
I think you would enjoy the trip whichever way you go.

Cobra,

Thanks for the reply. We'll be on the return leg to Newcastle from the Flinders. Travelling from Mildura to Mungo and then somehow to Willandra.

We're wondering if we can go cross country from Mungo to Willandra or whether we have to go Mungo, Balranald, Hay, Booligal or maybe Mungo, Ivanhoe, Willandra.

Cheers,

Tony

Been this way cross country and it is just a clean dusty road .... dead easy, Been to Willandra twice and once only to Mungo.... its a simple road made for typical Aussie cars and not a 4wd road by any means ... wet weather excepted ! Unless it flogs rain you shoudn't have any drama!!! Plan on a couple of days at Willandra and do the Trail Drive ain late afternoon for the Roo's and check out the homestead ....
