Hi,
We are spending several weeks doing the Gulf of Carpentaria in a few months time are are trying to put an itinerary together. Does anyone out there have an itinerary that they would like to share or recommend?
Thanks

JW,
We are starting from
Gladstone Qld, heading up through Mt Isa,
Cloncurry, etc and planning to start the Gulf track at Borolloola. We have 4 weeks all up.

Carlin,
We're almost neighbours. We live in
Yeppoon.
Can't help much west of
Borroloola but have done a few kms to the east.
If you have time, it is worthwhile cutting north from
Barcaldine to
Hughenden and
Richmond to hit the dinosaur trail. Going north from the Isa to
Lawn Hill, via
Gregory Downs, is also worthwhile.
Have you given any consideration to
Normanton,
Karumba and
Croydon?
Undara Lava Tubes near Mt Surprise are also worth a visit. Accom at Undara is very expensive so it is much cheaper to stay at Mt Surprise.
Einasleigh and
Forsayth have iconic pubs and are worth a visit.
Hope this helps.
regards
Jon W

Carlin,
Best spot is the Beachside CP on
Farnborough Rd, about .75 km north of the Surf Club. Ph 49393738.

on the road between
normanton and
cloncurry, a great free
campsite where the
flinders river crosses the road, barra, shade, crocs. just leave it pristine as i did , and the grazier will most likely leave the
gate open so its accessible to everyone in the future

We are after specific locations like this. IE campsites, tracks off the main tracks in the gulf area. We have no boat so any fishing spots?
