Quick question - maybe needs David to answer.

When I drop a photo into a post from one of my 6 gallery photos, how long is it locked for?

so is it 4 weeks = 28 days
or
4 weeks = 1month
or
30 days
or
31 days if it's a 31 day month
or
28 this month.

maybe we are all wrong and it is 60 days or 2 mths or even 6..........

There needs to be some clarification here! You can't just generalise, guess and assume something, for god's sake! What is wrong with you people!

Lone Wolf is correct.

Photos are locked while any linked threads are still active. The lock is lifted when all associated threads are archived.

I've never bothered to find out how long that is.

Best to use other web space to host pics then you have more control over the size. Most isp's give space on their server with the contract.

Actually, that silver ute wouldn't look out of place at Cronulla Beach aye?

Put some dry cleaning stickers on the sides, and maybe some Adidas stickers....

Ozdyssey,

If you are going to down load a pic of the Troopie let it be there for a long time.

Roachie just loves looking at a real 4wd.

Ozdyssey,

1 month is the time frame and is in place to ensure that while the thread is active the picture will still show. I lock it to ensure that the thread will not stuff up (so to speak) because the image gets deleted or changed. When externally hosted you may delete or remove the picture and this will cause the thread to not work correctly as the image may have gone (this I cannot control).

BTW: I will be increasing the number of pics when the new server comes online in the next two weeks as I will be able to load a new image transfer program that will manage the sizes of the pics during the transfer and I will then be showing these pics (Gallery that is) at an even bigger size. This will also follow in the trader as I will be increasing the number of images in display ads to 4.

David,

With the increasing complexity of the forum with pics now visible rather than just the link, other website links to confuse some users also, is it time to consider a change?

It is evident that the in message pic links confuses some of us - I know my first attempts were disastrous - by the number or reposted attempts in some threads.

Would it be hard to add a preview button in addition to the submit post button? The idea being that this would take posters to a live preview of what their message will look like if they continue and post it to the forum?

Might tidy a few loose ends up.

Dave

PS Do pic & web links need the %20 in the link rather than a space? If it 's a space and it wordwraps the link to the next line will it still work?

Dave,

Space in the hyperlink should be fine however a space character in a hyperlink is not great practise and the %20 is a html encoded version of a space char. For instance in the past Netscape would error is a space was inserted in a hyperlink - pics would not show etc. So I always convert to %20 if I control the hyperlink - however I really try to have no spaces in hyperlinks at all on ExplorOz.

Post preview - Yeah good idea will look into it got 2000 and 1 things on at the moment with the new server next week and Outback cleanup auction comming, new photo comp waiting to start etc. But leave it with me and I will see what I can do. I may also add image link support for
as some of you try to do it this way.
