G'day all, Have just purchased a 100 series std L/C wagon, 4.2 Normally asp. Diesel, 7.5 x 16, split rims. My question - I can get 5 new gxl rims (Steel) (freebies !!!) but am unsure what tyre size to put on. I see the GXL shod with 275/70 16's or similar, but am wondering if the change in tyre height/diameter is going to have any adverse effect ? - I dont mind sacrificing a Tiny (very small ) bit of power for better highway economy, but would like the advantages of larger tyres for better clearance etc. If anyone has done anything similar here, I'd sure like to hear what you have to say.
Jarrod.
P.s, any comments on overhead consoles ??? types, models, ease of installation???? love to hear about that too??

Jarrod,
I too have a 100 Series std L/C Wagon. I purchased a set of 16x8 GXL Rims and have put 285/75 16's on them. Cannot say I have noticed any adverse affect at all on economy, power etc, etc. In fact the rolling diameter of the new tyres are the same at the 7.5 x 16 so my speedo is still accurate as
well (confirmed with GPS).

275/70 16's will give you 100% accurate speedo reading whereas 285's will read incorrectly. They will offer better clearance but it is minimal. Depends on personal preference after that. I've had both & currently running 285's but only done 5K on them and can't tell difference. Little bit taller that's all with no difference in performance

Whats wrong with a set of the 235/85R16, or even 265/75R16 on the splitties they are 6 1/2 inch, 8'' rims let the side walls expose themselves too much, the original 7'' on std 100's with the 265/75R16's are good. These came before the splitties
