Does anyone have any information about the condition of the Buntine Road [NT]which links Top Springs and Nicholson station?

We expect cattle trucks will be using the road and if it's not too dangerous or badly choped up, we're thinking about taking the Buntine rather than going down the Duncan Road again, eventually finding the black top at Halls Creek.

Will be travelling in June 06 in 60 series Toyota. Are any permits required?

Cheers,

Paro

Single lane bitumen, can be badly sunken in places near edge and does have plenty of road trains. I prefer the wide gravel to roads like the Buntine, I reckon they are safer.

Hi Paro, I came home from Broome on the Buntine in November 04 Took the Duncan Hwy from Halls Creek and it turns into the Buntine Hwy when you cross the NT border. The road from memory, was a very narrow strip of seal with wide gravel edges to Kalkarindji. We were going to stay there but it is virtually an aboriginal community, so we pressed on to Top Springs for the night. The road was good to Top Springs. From there I took the Buchanan Hwy west to the Stuart Hwy just sth of Daly Waters which again was a very narrow sealed strip. The Buntine goes Nth from TS to the Victoria HWY then east to Katherine a good road. At the time I was travelling there was virtually no traffic sighted but it was late November. An itinerary for that trip is on my web page

Hi Rob,
Your website was well worth the visit......Thanks.

Can you confirm that Top Springs is 558Kms from Halls Creek?

Also, when compared with the Duncan Road, is the Halls Creek-Top Springs road a scenic route?

Perhaps we'll see you in that part of the world one day.

Regards,
