Robert,

Maybe Creswick or Daylesford areas. Lake Learmonth and Lake Burrumbeet both have caravan parks but the lakes are dry.

The CP in Gillies Street is close to Lake Wendouree and not far from where you are working.

Hi Robert,

Not sure where you are from but Ballarat is a major country town with a population of near on 100,000 if you count areas nearby and accordingly we do not have convenient bush camps very close to the city. Our family usually bush camp at Mt Buangor NP-Middle Creek where good long drop facilities are available but no showers and this is at least 40 minutes drive out of town near Buangor. Personally I would not recommend camping close to the city in any event as we do have a crime problem like most large towns.
Additionally this part of Victoria is going through severe drought conditions and many of our lakes have dried up.

The cheapest option may be either Lake Burrumbeet Caravan Park, Western Hwy, BURRUMBEET 3352, Phone: (03) 5344 0583 OR

Russell Reserve Caravan Park, South Shore, BURRUMBEET 3352, Phone: (03) 5344 8488

which are not too far out of town and at least your van/tent? should be safe.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

I stayed at the BIG4 caravanpark in Ballaratt last week for a few days. Its is 300metres from Sovereign Hill. has great amenities and super pool.. cant think of the name but the closest to Sovereign Hill.
