the small remote key that operates the central locking ( and the alarm) is chewing thru' batteries all of a sudden and i suspect the unit is doomed.
nissan dealer tells me its about $80 for a new one (which i might have paid) but tells me that it is $40 to program it (total about $120 )
is there a cheap alternative , ie altronics/dick smith gadget that works

I got quoted $150 to get a second key and to get the thing programmed....something I have not done yet but might have to fork out the money just so that I have a spare that I might use one day. I know I should have a spare...but $150

I guess I should just chain my keys to my arm and I should be fine :-)

Cnt save much on th ekey unless you hunt around perhaps on ebay or similar? But the reprogramming method is simple and listed in the Haines workshop manual. It can be used for locking out remote units as well just in case you lose one. Do not have details at work here but if you get access to one and copy it its a cinch.

Cannot recall the exact price but there are Mr Minit franchises which will do the job for much less - about $65 I seem to recall.

You can purchase non genuine ones from jay car, about $45, then its a simple procedure to program it, turning the ignition on and off a set number of times. Ive got a workshop manual on CD off e-bay and ive done it a few times.
