Hi Folks,
The Trek Notes indicate a shortcut by cutting across to the Ghan rail line then south to the Hugh River Stock Route.
The NATMAP 1:250000 topo map (1996) shows a road continuing eastwards from the rail line to Walkabout
Bore and then a track heading southwards to the stock route.
Does that road still exist? If so is either route markedly better than the other? The distance is not huge and I only ask on suspicion that the NATMAP may be outdated.
Any info greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

When we were there in '02 the
Ranger used this as a shortcut to get to Chambers from
Rainbow. There was mention of parts of the track being over Aboriginal land.

The track runs along the
northern boundary of the
Rainbow Valley area and heads east to the Ghan line. You cross the rail line and then take the track on the LHS of the line heading south till you meet the Maryvale Rd. This route is very easy to follow. We used it last July.

Thanks peter. Once you crossed the line was any
sign at all of a track continuing eastwards?
