Hi All,

I know some of you out there love fuel economy stats so I though I'd post ours.

We have had our Prado for six weeks or so now and covered just under 3500km.
The vehicle is a manual turbo diesel, it still has the standard tyres (@36psi) and no external accessories at this stage. Weight wise, it has dual batteries, fridge, milford barrier. On our couple of trips away we carried gear for two for four days.
1350 km has been city commuting to and from work(Driven to keep up with trafffic). The rest was 90% highway (100-105km/h) 10% fast dirt (80km/h). The a/c has been on 99.9% of the time.
1200km was in 40+ celcius heat and one 300km section had some of the worst head winds I've ever encountered.
Anyway to cut a long story short!, 10.38l/100km is our average to date. I imagine if I drove for economy around town I could squeeze this figure down a little more.
Much better than our VR @ 14l around town, and our previous 4x4, 2.6 Bravo @ 14.5 l/100 average(canopy/30'tyres/lift)

Hopefully of interest to someone!
Mick

Filled up my new TD Hilux (manual) tonight, its done 10.000klm.

Out of the last tank we got 9.3 lt per 100klm, that was approx 70% Hwy and 30% mountain driving (up and down from 4th to 5th allot) no city work. (I have averaged my figures over one tank not the 10,000klms)

Your doing ok out of your Prado, surprises me a little, mate of mine has one, (auto 50.000klms) he is getting 11Klm per 100Klm min.

I would amagine your engine is still tight, you should expect better I would think.

Oh and welcome to the Toyota camp :-)

Brett,

Thanks for your reply. We are very happy with our economy so far. We know several people with TD Prados and for the manuals the economy is much the same 10-11 L/100. However one friend with an auto is up around 16L/100 (getting in checked next service) others we know with autos are getting 11-13L/100.
I'm pretty confident I could get below 10L/100 if I did a run just for economy( ie, Hwy, 90-100ks/h, flat road etc) However I don't think I'll ever see those numbers as we are about to fit AT tyres, a steel bar and roof rack....
I've heard mid to high 8's for the new TD Hilux at it's best...Pretty good in anyones books.

Mick.
