Need to replace the water pump on my 1991 Nissan Terrano TD27. Does anybody have an idea on what they have found to be available for the Terrano. That is no-genuine.

Thanks

I got one for a Terrano II at Repco. They are the same as a Diesel Navara. There are 2 types though, one for the Diesel and one for a Turbo Diesel. The Turbo diesel one has a larger clutch and is also cheaper than the normal one. From memory it was $195, or there abouts. $200 odd Cheaper than the 'Genuine Nissan' part and made by the same mob (same logo in the casting). When installing the new one, give both sides of the gasket a smear with form-a-gasket or similar silicone stuff as I only did one side and had to do it all again later. Take care torquing the new one on too, as the 2 smaller bolts can strip if over done.12-17in/lb for the smaller ones (M8 bolts) 20-27 in/lbs for the big ones (M10)

I don't know how much clearance you have on the T1, but on the T2 I could just do the replacement with the radiator in, the clamping bolts at the top out and the shroud removed , but was knocking the fins around something chronic. To make it easier, pull the radiator out and soak it in a tub to loosen up the gunk so you can give the fins a good hose out.

I added ½ a tube of Toyota silicone to the brand new clutch to help with the cooling a little too. Only $12 and heaps easier than trying to do it later.

hoyks, do you think the Toyota silicone makes any difference to the efficiency of the fan?
Does the clutch assemble have a filler plug?

Sorry, read assemble as assembly!

(Wish there was an edit function.)

There is no filler plug, you just have to undo the 4 or 5 screws that hold the two halves of the clutch casing and split it open. Don't damage the O ring either.
It makes the clutch work a bit more. Mine still gets warm on a hot day, but not as bad as it used to. I have a new radiator too, so it might also do nothing. ;-)

Repco or Coventry have a listing for the T1 and can supply them for about $185 but make sure it is the correct one as there are a few options. Not sure if they are exactly the same as the TII. The housing etc is the same, I think, but the offset of the Vee pulley is different. The offset of the back of the pulley to the mounting flange is what you will need to measure.
The last one I bought from Coventry was from the same manufacturer who makes the genuine part.

I changed mine over about 18 months ago.
Got one from:
Thompson's Spare Parts
8 Dollery Road, , Capalaba, Qld, 4157
Phone: 07 3245 4222

For about $180

I also got the toyota silicon oil and put about half the tube into the new one.

Also, check that the holes for the fan bolts are exactly the same. I think there may be two types.

I found it easier to take the fan off first and then the pump. It's feirly tight otherwise.

Cheers.

Part No. for the silicon or the pump?
Can't help on the pump, but the silicon's Toyota part No. is;

oil, silicon 08816-10001

I just happened to find a spare tube when cleaning up my work bench on the weekend.

Sorry, no idea about the part number. My car's away, getting a new starter motor fitted, so I can't have a look.

I just gave them a call and told them the car and year. Paid over the phone by credit card and got a mate to pick it up for me. Luckily it fit perfectly.

Cheers
